Pur 40 E Drive Assembly Servicing

My water maker Pur 40 E (upgraded from the 35) stopped working last year. I just got to work on it and found out that the problem was not with the 12 v motor. I had removed the pump body and tried to connect the motor/drive assembly and nothing happened. I then disconnected the drive assembly and the motor and shaft work with no problem. However, the drive assembly seems to be completely frozen. I cannot find any literature explaining how to service the drive assembly or to check the oil in the gearbox. Any suggestions? Re: Pur 40 E Drive Assembly Servicing

I think I read somewhere that the gearbox is not supposed to fail and the replacement cost is absurd. I may not remember correctly.

Have a look a Gary's watermaker book.

Katadyn and PUR Watermakers: Installation, Maintenance and Troubleshooting

Let me know how you make out. I have a 35 that I am not going to spend any more money on but the motor and gearbox are fine. Maybe we can do a deal.

Okay John, I will keep you on mind. I am soaking the gear in oi now to see if it gets unstuck. Not cruising before january, so I havew some time to experiment. Do you know how much you want for the motor/drive? Thanks, christian

I hadn't thought about that but I will. I'm hauling in St. Marys late this month or early next. I plan to be there for Thanksgiving.

Do I know your boat name from the Cruiseheimers net?

John

Re: Pur 40 E Drive Assembly Servicing

John, what a coincidence! We are hauling out at the St Mary's Boat Yard Saturday, and will be there until December. You may have heard Mary on the Cruiseheimer net as we have been cruising since 1993 and she was Friday's net controller until 2003 when we crossed the pond. We do check in daily when we are on board. In any events, we will see you in the yard. Best regard, christian
