Re: Old Head - can someone ID please

Just installed two new pumps we bought on line. Found a guy that had some old new stock stashed. Do a search. You may just find them. Ted.

Here is a photo of the Headmate. I think that's it.

While I'm here, this is the original brochure for that unit.

Re: Old Head - can someone ID please

I have had a Wilcox Crittenden Skipper II head, Type 8 on board for way over thirty years--and it was not new when Bill found it outside the back door of Fisherman's Supply, in Moss Landing. It is still a terrific head but, Yes, available parts are diminishing rapidly.

I have contacted Thetford about ordering a Waste Valve Flap though doubt it will be still in stock as, five years ago, West Marine sent THREE of the wrong sized (smaller) rebuild kits before I finally gave up. The one I have is still functioning but I'm looking to the future and wondering if anyone knows of where to have one custom made. Or, simply, where to buy the material (whatever it is) so I could make a new one myself, using the old bronze weight.

It is truly a damn shame that such a wonderful piece of equipment is no longer available--too good a product, I guess, not enough turn-over profit for manufacturing.

Will see if I can attach a photo of the required Waste Flapper Valve, in another post.

This photo shows the undersized gasket sent in the repair kit, over the correct-sized flapper valve gasket.

Same problem, different gasket

This last is a repair done while anchored at Palmyra, while waiting for delivery of new part. With only hand tools, Bill carved a replacement part from MICARTA that is still functional. The cut in the casting, where a bolt tightens down on the shaft, is the weak spot in the design.

I'm 99.99% certain your toilet is a Skipper, not a Skipper II 'cuz the Skipper II didn't exist 30 years ago...Thetford introduced it as a cheaper version of the Skipper after they bought W-C. I think this may account for them sending you the wrong size rebuild kits...you asked for the wrong ones. If you'll send me a PM that includes your email address (can't attach anything to a PM), I'll send you exploded drawings for both toilets so you can see for yourself what the differences are.
