LPG solenoid valve

Greetings,
I noticed the 12V sol. isolation valve I recently replaced is hot to the touch when activated. I rewired it with the same polarity but I don't think the coil is polarity sensitive. The voltage is correct and I cannot figure out what could cause it to run at such an elevated temp. It is a direct replacement and I don't recall the other coil running that hot. I really don't want to switch it out as I just replaced the whole control manifold. How hot is "normal"?

How many amps is it drawing as compared to how many it is rated for? If the amps are withing range, it is probably OK. My guess is that it is drawing higher than rated amps and they owe you a replacement.

The ones I have installed have not been polarity sensitive. Drove me nuts the first time trying to figure out which way was right.

The coil should draw about 1 amp or 12 watts, which will make it warm to the touch. If it is too hot to touch, it is probably partially shorted, and you should definitely check the amperage draw and replace it if it is more than 25% over the specification.
