Force 10 Diesel Heater vs Taylor 068 Paraffin heater

Hi folks,

Excited to finally post something here... one small step...!

Anyhow, Winter's coming and I have the option to buy one of the two above-mentioned used models, both as complete units, including everything to make them run.

Let us assume they're both functioning equally well. Which would you go for, and why? Oh, I live in the NorthEast, and plan to sail no later than Thanksgiving.

Cheers!

The wheel

Re: Force 10 Diesel Heater vs Taylor 068 Paraffin heater

Hey wheel, welcome to the forum.
I've only got limited experience with a diesel heater and pulled it off the boat during my refit.
The heater worked well and had the convenience of using the same fuel as my diesel engine.
And that's about all I know about that!

Re: Force 10 Diesel Heater vs Taylor 068 Paraffin heater

G'Day TW,

If the Force Ten diesel heater is one that uses the modified Primus burners, I have the following experience:

Some years ago I built a heater using one of those burners. Found that it was not really happy burning diesel... at least the diesel available in the real world. I recall that the F-10 folks raved about "gin-clear" diesel available in Canada, but I found that the stuff that I could buy didn't seem to meet their requirements. At any rate, it would burn, but carboned up very rapidly. Eventually I just started using kero, and it worked ok then.

Now have a drip-feed type pot burner (Fab-All)and it has been pretty trouble free.

Cheers,

Jim

Thanks guys. Using kero on the F10 Diesel is something I hadn't thought about! I'd heard you can mix the two, but didn't know it ran much better on pure kerosene. Good tip.
