Dead accumulator pressure tank

The one litre jabsco we have has died today for the third time and I doubt it can be resurrected again.

I have read that household accumulator tanks will work and bigger is apparently better and being a fraction of the cost I am wondering if this is a good candidate?

If you have the room for it, why not?

(We had a pvc one that Jim cobbled together from 4" pipe, end caps, and fittings, without even a membrane in it, that worked okay for years.)

No shortage of space when in there, its just the getting me in there which is a bit tight.

My inflatable contortionist midget still hasn't arrived so it'll be sweating, swearing and bloodletting times ahead for me.

You really don't need an accumulator, my boat had a large house type when i purchased her, when it expired, i did not replace it, the O2 system works just fine.

No accumulator on my boat either. Just a Jabsco water pump that has a 2 speed control for when water demand is greater.

Well, ours doesn't.
The pump pulses quite violently and loudly whereas before it was smooth.

And you are using a different type of pump.
If I wanted to spend around $500 and get one I could get rid of my $40 accumulator but the logic and maths doesn't add up

A household stlyle accumulator will work just fine, technically its no different, but most are steel and will corrode. I have a stainless one of about 1 gallon capacity, but forget when I got that from. Small will solve hammering/pulsing problems, but bigger will cut down more on pump cycling.

Just use a standard filter housing with a sediment filter but install it so that it is upside down which creates an air pocket. That is what I do and it works!

A household accumulator tank is the same as those sold at the marine store, I replaced ours for 1/5 the cost & easy to do. Just buy one of those blue units from any plumbing supply house which cost around $20, or 19 euros in Italy.

PS to my above. I moved the Pringle-can sized accum which came with the boat to my new washdown system (which rarely would be used in other than full-flow circumstances, anyway); it failed very shortly thereafter.

I had found my original accum at a salvage joint (surplus and used gear); its bladder eventually failed, and I replaced it with a Home Depot version as shown in my link.

It takes a LONG time for my pump to pressurize, and a LONG time for my pressurized line to get to low enough to kick it on again. Though I have 3 spares, I have had one replacement (because parts were no longer available) pump in the 12 years we've lived aboard; pumps don't like to start very many times if they can avoid it...

I have owned many boats and suffered issues with pressure systems.
I have developed a product to electronicly control the speed of the pump.
The product is even flow and it is an aftermarket device fitted to adjust the speed to the system flow demand.

It is easy to fit and operates best without the accumulator tank.
