Choice of sanitation hose

Changing sanitation hose on an Island Packet 45. Most critical line is about 20-25 feet long. Original line is 1.5 inch ID Trident 101. Because of the way this line is run toward the holding tank, it would be very difficult to get this line to self drain and it would therefore likely have standing effluent in it. Some have suggested that to ease installation of a replacement line, it might be acceptable to use 1.25 inch ID hose with thinner walls. Any comments, suggestions, recommendations?

The 1½" line fits, so the replacement 1½" line will also.

These hoses are available in 10' lengths.

On my boat the factory used a short length of 1½" schedule 40 PVC pipe w/ hose clamps to couple two hose sections to create the full run, from head to vacuum generator.

On mine, I flush extra water to purge the hose. On mine, I periodically fill the bowl w/ fresh water and flush that "slug" of water to clean the system.

If the effluent is going to stand you want a high quality hose to avoid odor permeating the wall. I would consider that before getting a thinner walled hose.
On my old IP 38 that hose went through the compartments under the salon seats. If the 45 is the same that odor might not be desired.

I've seen nothing to suggest that Trident 101 isn't still the best sanitation hose you can get. It is available in 12 and 50ft lengths.

Looks like you save a bit by buying 50ft (I just paid $10 a foot for 6 ft)

What was the failure mode of your original hose?

Did the Trident 101 fail or permiate? How old?

Another top quality hose, which is slighty thinner and more slippery is Shields Poly-X. But it is $$$.

There is no way I would go with a thinner walled "white" sanitation hose. It will smell within 5 years, if all is lucky.

edit. Actually, based upon testing the white Dometic hose is better, different from the other white hose, but the stuff is quite stiff and pricey. Unless the weather is hot it will be bear to fit, below 60F it might as well be soft pipe.

whatever breand this white sanitation hose is it works just fine and i could get it in any length i wanted in downwind marina and sdmx san diego. is still good after 5 years so must be decent sanitation hose.
itwas pricey, so has to be good cough choke laugh

$20 of PVC pipe and forget about it. Use soft couplings on the ends. Before flaming that, find me an example of a PVC installation that broke because of boat flexing, etc.
