Re: Learning to Sail with "Sailaway"?

As I said before, you can learn tons with a sailing simulator, but there's no seasickness when sailing a simulator.

My first boating experience was on small beatup power boats I bought as a teenager 20 years before I started to sail.

Point is learn what you can on the sim, then start getting on the water experience asap on some type of small boat

You learn so much faster on a small boat with lots of sail area because when you pull a "string" something happens and it happens NOW

On a heavy monohull it can take 45 seconds for an adjustment to affect the boat

Re: Learning to Sail with "Sailaway"?

Sailaway does a good job teaching you which lines do what, how and why to trim the sails, and how sailboats perform and heel at various points of sail and wind / sea conditions. There is no substitute for real life practice, but you will be smarter for having messed around with the simulator.

Re: Learning to Sail with "Sailaway"?

I'm suprised no has mentioned eSail https://www.esailyachtsimulator.com/ . A much better simulator IMHO although maybe not as good graphics as others. Its keeping me going till the weather improves!
