Fidelity Loadstar generator removal

On a recent cruise to get hauled the generator quit. The boat is from 1979 and the genset appears to be original. It is powered by the venerable Perkins 4108 and I'd like to just replace/repair the generator. I was able to partially disassemble by removing the bolts attaching to the bell housing and then used a puller to remove the small rotar windings that appeared to be the culprit (contained diodes and burned coils). The repair shop wanted to be able to test the rest of the rotor but would not come to the boat and do an onsite test.

It appears that the rotor is attached to the flywheel by 8 bolts. I can barely see them thru the fan blades and because of the fan design an spacing can not even get a finger let alone a wrench on them. There must be some sort of trick to removing the generator rotor but everyone that I talk to says you need to remove the bolts.
Fidelity was acquired in 1991 by Marathon and tech service has been helpful to some extent. But they do not have any info on the removal.

Thanks for taking the time to read this plea for help
