Cruise advice

We are embarking from Key Largo to Punta Gorda. Which way would you kind folks recommend? North to Stuart and west to Ft. Myers?
Or South thru the keys, then North to Punta?

clearance is 18.6ft, draft is 3.10 ft, length is 37 ft. Small cruiser.

I'm chicken, I'd go North to Stuart and west to Ft. Myers. That is unless you want to go way out to avoid the skinny water down south. Check those charts closely.
