My post refers to ABSOLUTELY no one on this forum......It is directed towards the Bozos on the Docks that offer bad advice, UN-educated guesses and downright dangerous opinions....the befuddle/scare and confuse.

Once again, the original post does not repeat...does not impugn the knowledge base of this forum

Inexperienced arm-chair experts offer advice for three reasons:

There are people who listen to them
Assuming the identity of an expert with expert knowledge makes these inexperienced arm-chair experts feel good.
Forums, Groups, and other electronic/internet meeting places allow frauds to disguise their actual experience and knowledge.

You know who you are and your mother would not be proud of you.

I wish that I had realized this 10 years ago. I would not have wasted assets and time on wrong advice.

Since Bill's only been around the CF for about 3 years (since Sept 2008), I hope we can assume that he's not referring to any of our "experts".

Do you think that CF is the only place to meet "experts?"

10 years ago there were other places, as there are other places today.

And, yes, 10 years ago, like I said in my original post, I was convinced the advice I got on a similar forum/group was genuine. It was not!

I hope that some of the virgins reading this thread will learn something from what I have said...but be careful virgins because I could be the person misinforming!

This thread is asking a much more important question than why people lie. To me, it is asking: How do we get good information and how do we know it is good information??
Need to start a new thread- how to tell if what you hear is true? I will call it "Marine Truth" and I would appreciate everyone's input.

Good Question.

One of the ways CF could improve this forum is to give its users the opportunity to anonymously 1-click vote for "good useful info" or "useless info." Then show the tally on each posting. It would be better than what is presented now. It certainly would not be foolproof. And, hopefully, it would likely cut down on the stupid off-subject postings.

I do not think that a user has the ability to validate information in a forum like this. Users in this forum can give any credentials they want and you and I have seen lots of this on this forum.

If you have a serious question that has your time and assets in the balance, do not rely on guidance from someone that you do not know.
