with epirb, sudden change in position is spozed to make it go off..not so with spot--one MUST press the emergency alert button specifically so it will go....and then it takes time to send....

Would you like to elaborate on That sudden change of position with the Epirb, Zeehag,

Would throwing it off the boat make it send out a distress message,
This is for my own knowledge on it, As I havent heard that one mentioned before,

the first batches of epirbs would go off when inverted. also when wet...the uscg used to have to search sd bay for ebirb signals set off by folks inadvertently. i dont know of new ones also do same feature.

Mine goes off Automatically if submerged or gets very wet,
It doesnt go off if inverted,

But I didnt know about the sudden change in position, It would have to be thrown to change its position, suddenly, I doubt if dropping it over the side would do that, Not enough travel,

Zeehag epirbs don't know there own position so how could it detect a change in one.

Cat I EPIRBs would light upon submerging; some would nowadays be GPS enabled.

Current models of Marine style EPIRBs do not activate when inverted or otherwise moved. Most (all?) aviation models have a single axis "G" switch that will activate the beacon when subjected to a sudden stop (ie crash). Some helicopter models have 6 axis G switches fitted.
