Re: Nilaya / Berserk Missing

G'day, mates. He obviously wants the publicity, yet he can't even upload a photo or video of the so called "flag planting on the continent". I'm sure the N.Z. Herald or any of the TV News organizations would have paid for the data upload. What kind of "rinky dink" expedition is this? Cheers.

Yeh....for my money the most valuable trait of a leader is his regard for those he leads...IMO Shackleton was a leader...Scott was an ego maniac...may have also been a sex god? not sure?

crafted image = you mean like a carefully branded 'Berserk viking' image complete with plastic horned helmets
pandering to the illiterate masses = you mean like producing TV and youtube videos, poking polar bears with poles to get fun video, and asking Leonard (by documented e-mail) to "find Maori mechanic or seaman with face tattoo."
duplicity = you mean like lying to every authority and lying about 'safe anchorages'
indecisiveness = well, I do have to give you that one, Jarle does not seem indecisive about his foolishness.

If you really want to follow "courage, intelligence, physical strength, bravery, and resourcefulness", please look up : Bob Shepton, Willy Ker Matt Rutherford, Thies Matzen & Kicki Ericson, Alessandro Di Benedetto, just to name a very few of the many voyagers who have showed far far more of those traits and deserve far far more attention than Jarle's stunts.

Re: Nilaya / Berserk Missing

I think the armchair sailers need to file a complaint against this man to the Government of Antarctica,...Wait there isn't one the entire place is uninhabited except for a few research stations, and whaling ports.

The U.N. even claims jurisdiction over SPACE. That is the entire universe outside of out atmosphere!

I agree with the posters that failing to file a permit with the "proper" beaurocracies in countries on the other side of the globe, that can't even place a single representative in Antartica to collect the fee, is beyond absurd!

Why Don't I claim jurisdiction over Antartica, and decide you also need to send me money for MY permission to go there?

It would make about as much sense.

The bottom line is this guy apparently doesn't care about what any of us think, (even the mindless beaurocrats). He just went.

And He is sailing in the Anterctic sea, while we are milling away the hours in our armchairs typing on internet forums.
