Re: Green Cove Springs Boat Fire

I live on the St. Johns and saw the fire/police boats headed that way last night. Wondered what it was.

Hope no one here lost anything.

Re: Green Cove Springs Boat Fire

Three boats on the bottom and two guys in the hospital with bad burns. The boat that blew was Monkeyfist's tow boat, a gasoline boat. The bilge pump is the suspect. Battery power was disconnected to everything else. They were not starting the engine when it blew.

It was the monkey fist owner and employee that were injured. It appears the vessels sunk were also their scrap vessels. Which is sorta good news bad news as the cruising community was no impacted by loss of boats, but I bet those boats might be on the bottom a while.

Wonder how monkey fist's workers comp is?

There are bags under the stern of the one shown in my photo above. The divers said they will add the bow bags tomorrow and then re-float it. The fellow that owns that boat lives (lived) aboard but don't know if he was aboard when the fire occurred. I did see him in the yard today. Not living aboard now for sure.

Other boats were damaged but not sunk.

Bad news. I've bought a number of things from Steve at Monkey Fist. He ia very nice guy and I wish him well. He also has some of the best deals I've found in years on used boat gear.

Monkey Fist is one of my favorite haunts. Sad to hear of the accident. Steve not only runs a great business, but has over the years captured and had neutered most of the stray cats in the marinas yard.

I've heard Steve is still recovering. Randy had been back at work last few months.
