Zemanta - New Ad Supplier?

Just today I've started seeing ads on CF that are... inappropriate. They aren't the usual ads served up by Google, this one's served up by "Zemanta" which is a subsidiary of Outbrain. (prejudice alert - I detest the sort of fake "info" sponsored link ads served up elsewhere by Outbrain, Taboola and similar companies). And no I'm not seeing skeevy ads because of where or what I've looked at previously; boating is my pr0n. Too old for the other stuff to work on me.

And unlike Google ads, I can't even close them.

Anyway, this is a heads-up - if I continue to see such ads on CF... Boom - Adblocker. I hate to go that route because I appreciate the forum. But no-one's gonna get away with inappropriate ads.

If you become a "Supporting Member" for a few bucks a year, you can turn all of the cr*p off. It's well worth it in my NSHO

Look ma, No ads (and I don't use AdBlockers):

Thanks...worth considering, for sure. Still, if their adserver turns off others besides me, it could become a problem.

(I was in advertising for almost a decade, and have a particular hate on for the way internet ads are often not related in any way to the websites they're on. Eg earwax remover ads on CF. barf. )

Welp, the inappropriate and uncloseable ads continue. I will consider supporting CF as a paid-up member... but in the meantime, I believe strongly that both site owners and advertising servers need to be more responsible for what ads they serve. At some level, these inappropriate ads are the result of choices made by those who run CF, and it's a choice I don't accept. Ad-blocker it is... Sorry.
