Problem with establishing friends

I've received notifications of some nice folks who wish to become friends. I have accepted the offer, saved changes, and get a message saying error on page. What's going on? Is my acceptance getting back to them? How do I confirm they have received my acceptance? Why is the process so confusing?

Could be a trick or some sort of sick conspiracy! Are they asking you to "be" a friend or "become" a friend. Hmmmmmmm.......
Funny nobody has ever asked me to be a friend.
Hope this all works out and since I see you are living in my old home San Diego I may want to be friends with you also so I can visit. Just a thought as sit here drinking.

LOL I seen the title for this thread and it immediately made me think someone was starting a Cruising Cult of some sort.

I never even realized there was a friend option on this forum.

My sense after trying this is that the function is still under development. Currently there doesn't seem to be any sort of notification, you have to go to the User CP tab.

What I would really like to see is a way of displaying threads my friends have made responses to... other than using the search function. My argument is this: If they are talking, I want to be listening because I have respect for their point of view and/or style of writing.

You should receive a notification that you have a Friend request or a visitor message unless you have disabled notifications in your user cp.

Notifications will show as pending in the upper right hand corner of the screen next to your login status (along with PM notifications).

Well Roy I don't remeber kindergarten too well but my son is onl;y five years out of K. I'll ask him

Could also be that line you left on the thread I started about San Diego Harbor Cruising where you replied, " My fees for apprenticeship are quite small, but the period of indentureship is significant." Maybe they are afraid you are starting a cult your last name isn't Jones is it?

Thanks folks! I now have a new appreciation for the opportunities created by CF. Henceforth, I shall offer wise and profound pronouncements at reduced rates for the reverent, unending hell and everlasting dryrot to the disbelievers, and cool, superior distraction towards the undecided. Those who wish to offer their souls and credit cards as sincere expressions of faith may contact my legal staff, Dewey, Cheatham and Howe, for access to the deposits website of Credit Suisse. Go forth and sin some more. I give discounts for quantity (and quality) transgressions.

Would you take a check ?

OK - seriously, here's how it works:

When you receive a friend request, you get a notification. You can view it in the upper right hand corner and click on it to take action on the request. (screen shot)

You will be taken to your profile and then you can accept or reject the request.

To accept: Click the little box in the avatar block of the request editor. Then click I accept or reject (depending on weather or not their check cleared) and look over to the right and hit save changes. (screen shot)

Next you will be taken to a confirmation screen - but you can ignore if you like. On the confirmation screen you have the opportunity to add this new friend to your contacts list. Again when you have finished making your changes, hit save. (screen shot)

You won't receive ANY confirmation of any of this but if you would like to check, you can view your friends list (see screen shot) and actually edit it if you like. You can remove friends who have failed to send payment, insulted your dog or failed to buy the last round.

Your friends list is fully configurable and you can even turn off the option to receive any notifications of new friends.
>user CP (upper nav bar)
>edit options
>messaging and notification

Disable any features you like and scroll and hit save.

Talbot,

Unless your friend is Bill!

DOJ,

I was once accused of firing a girlfriend once by a fellow worker. He heard me tell her to get out of my life, and walk off. He said as I walked past him" I guess you fired her!"

I too am having problems with adding friends. Having worked wth vBulletin a lot I can tell you that it is probably not getting written to the database and the query to remove the friends request is either not functioning or because it is not being written to the database when it runs a query to check it is returning false so not deleting it either. By the way no confirmation screen. it just does its little spinny thing and thats it.

Another issue is in IE 7 cookies are not set, so when you log in unless you chek remember me you are immediately logged out upon going to another page.
