Hi,
My handpump toilet was notdrawing in much water so I took the plastic pump apart and found a fairly basic valve assembly.

Here are the photos - maybe you recognise it ?

It looks a bit worn out - can I get a new one of these plastic things sent to me in the post from somewhere ?

These are not unlike the parts in a head. Basically rubber cut then weights are attached. You would need the vendor's name and the model number / ID to know what you need. You might find it on the web.

I have no idea what pump this came from.

I could not see any makeers name on the head but I will take another look.

Do you thing that this plastic valve thing can be warmed up or "melted" and repaird in some way ?

It looks like it is from a Jabsco pump. Here is a link to one service kit. May want to take a look at Jabsco in the catalogs. Toilet Service Kit*

Dave the photo is too small and blurry. I can't quite read the numbers on the credit card ;-) :-)
You will need to identify the make before you can get a part. If it is a Jabsco, parts should be available. I doubt you are going to be able to repair long term, but if you need soemthing urgent till a new part arrives, try making something from a rubber inner tube and gluing the weights to it with superglue (cyanoacrylate). It doubt it will be a long term solution, but could be worth a shot.

Yes - its definately that one - the Jabsco pump and that service kit contains an identical part (except it looks black).

That price though!!! $ 38 just for some bits of rubber and plastic that can only cost about 2 dollars - what a rip off!

Doesn't any pirate company make "Jabsco" pump parts ?

That inner tube sounds like an idea but the rubber seems thicker on the Jabsco.

I'll have a look on ebay as well.

Any more thoughts ?

Yes I know it seems expensive. But Jabsoc are noted for quality and think how many years you have had from that old one. So the new one should last as many years as well.

could you take two or even three pieces of innertube and use superglue or rubber cement, to sandwich them together...making a thicker piece ??

Just an idea.

It's similar to Head Mate from Wilcox Ctittenden excpt the larger hole is mounted in another location so it needs to be the correct part number for the right modle number. I really doubt you could make a temporary fix on this main flap (where the large hole is). It is usually the first one that goes on any head. I would look at other places on the head for clues to the make / modle. FWIW, the repair kit for the Head Mate while different costs $79 and a new head costs $110. Sometimes the repair kit isn't worhth the hassle. If it is a jabsco then it would be similar. Just buy a new cheap head.

We looked at "overhauling" our head and decided not to because the basic plastic parts were old and getting brittle.

As we disconnected the pipes for removal of the head the hard plastic broke in 2 places.

Think hard before investing 75% of the cost of a new head for internal parts only...

Can you imagine the cost of the die that cuts these and the labor of adding the weights and their cost. Oh, and what about the wasted rubber??? That has to be charged to something.

Try making one yourself and add up materials, travel expenses and labor. You will fine even at $38 it's a good deal. Unless one works at McDonald's the labor alone is worth it.

Find it in a catolog, order it, UPS/FedEx delivers it to your door, you install it and it's done. In the mean time you could be doing something else of higher importance, something that will pay the $38 plus!

Cost of the cutting die is allotted to the total number the die makes.
A Cutting die for this would be about $ 50 (that includes someones profit to make it)

Divide that by the number it can cut - approx 10,000 and you have a pretty small cost. The rubber - maybe 50 cents worth.

Yer - it's real hard to see how they can make any profit at $ 38 ,
I think I'll send a $100 and say "keep the change"
