I have legal/economic questions

I narrowly dodged homelessness caused by religious persecution once long ago.

I had a good job and money but had a time limit to leave in 30 days.

Luckily I beat my situation.

However it does make me wonder about alternate modes of housing.

My question is this:

If I constructed a primitive large raft with a cabin on it could I legally dwell in it?

If so would a marina tolerate my presence?

This is purely theoretical but none the less I would like to know

Re: I have legal/economic questions

Depends entirely on where you are talking about. Every nation has their own laws. You need to be a lot more specific.

That said, I suspect that, with very few exceptions, your raft would have to have an approved sanitation system to be legal to live aboard.

Greetings and welcome aboard the CF, jubal.

You could legally build a raft residence, but no marina [I'm aware of] would tolerate it.

First time post...and you are trying to equate religious persecution with raft thatt might look like a raft on skid row. to be allowed in a marina. Unless you can afford something like the raft on the picture above ....you cant afford the slip fee nor insurance on it so it is a mute point.
Really...equating this with religious persecution... .

Just head on down to Key West and you'll fit right in.

- This is made as a tongue in cheek comment; sadly, sarcasm font still doesn't exist.

I didn't equate the boat to religious persecution...

I said i was almost homeless due to religious persecution, but i never drew comparison to the boat and persecution

Re: I have legal/economic questions

Many people live on derelict boats in FL. Not in marina. But if you’re asking if you can live free on something that floats, yes.

I think though your quality of life would be better if you have a plan to stay employed and out of trouble.

Sorry, but I'm going to have to challenge the premise that religious persecution is at the root of your problem, and that a raft is going to solve it.

I think you need to dig a little deeper.

Was tied up at Marina Jack's for a long time but haven't noticed it lately when we've been there for dinner.

I dont know why people leave out the most important information when asking vague and unthinking questions...

Where do you hope to do this?

Some canal in Amsterdam, some tributary in Myanmar, Miami Beach,...?????

Re: I have legal/economic questions

You can always find a place to live free afloat, the question is not so much whether "they" will let you, as much as whether you can.

Religious persecution (and I’m not making light of it) will look like child’s play if you drag a ramshackle boat/raft anywhere near most shorelines in the US…

Yep. As they say in real estate, the three most important things are location, location and location.

For the OP the answer will certainly depend on where.
