2000 380 S2 Owners Version Price?

I am shopping for a Cat on either coast to cruise the islands and possibly take it to Australia. One Cat I am considering is the Lagoon 380 S2 Owners Version. The galley is really lacking but we can deal with that. My concern is the prices. Most 2000 models we can find are asking in the $220K range. Boat US suggests $126K. I made certain the boats in question did not include captains or gold plated toilets to justify the cost. Just kidding but they only have the standard amenities. What gives and what is a fair price for one of these cats? Are people just paying $100K more than the boat is worth? Actually I like the layout of the Admiral better but cannot find one.

Unfortunately a 2000 model has long since reached full depreciation (according to boat stats - I don't understand this). So you will see many 2000 models priced the same as say a 2004 or even 2006 model. If you need to finance then you will just have to look for a newer boat. Owner's versions are fewer and more desirable so they will always carry a premium. My advice is to just wait and keep a close eye on yachtworld for an owner's version that is priced right and jump on it. You actually just missed an owner's version in Panama that was purchased for $150k. It was listed for $160k

Thanks for the input. I don't mind paying top dollar for what a boat is worth but at the same time I do not want to contribute to overinflated boat pricing. There are too many good deals out there. I will keep looking.

Re: 2000 380 S2 Owners Version Price?

The Reason that the older 380's are still selling in the low 200's in MHO is fold.

#1 The interior is real wood, whereas the newer versions have gone to cheap laminates.
# 2 There seem to less of them on the open market for sale, so the simple law of supply and demand goes up.

I love my 2001 380 owners version and would not trade it for a 2006 or older.

They are a popular boat for many reasons. The fact that they hold there resale value is not a minus but a plus and all the more reason to own one.

I'm not 100% positive, but I think the heavy use of Lagoon Catamarans in the Caribbean Charter fleets has skewed the "blue book" value of these boats. Based on my research, an ex-charter Lagoon 380 will sell for under 180k, while a privately owned non-charter it going to sell north of 200k.

I've found that boats in the Caribbean, charter or not, will generally sell for less because logistically the location is a pain in the ass.

I have a friend who has purchased two catamarans out of the Caribbean and he suggested adding 20k to the purchase price if going that route. Based on this advice, we ended up purchasing a slightly more expensive boat stateside, and I'm REALLY happy we did. It's just less stressful not having to mess with flying.
