HELP! Where is the hot water heater!

I have a friend who has a 1989 tall rig, 30' Catalina. He doesn't have a manual. He had a stroke about two months ago and can't remember where the hot water heater is on his boat and he needs to hook up a new pump. All answers are greatly appreciated. Thanks guys and gals.

The water heater is almost certainly in a cockpit locker. But what’s this got to do with a new water pump?

Re: HELP! Where is the hot water heater!

I don't really know but he says they work together. If he can find the hot water heater he can see where to put the pump. I have a Freedom 32 and my hot water heater can be accessed thru my portside locker or in the back of the head. Also that is where my fresh water pump is located. So I'm guessing maybe it's the same set up, they just happen to be in the same place. He's very confused and just trying to help him out. I'm having someone install the water pump for him, but he can't find where the old one is either. It sounds like a two stooges comedy, but it's not. Thanks for the reply I'm having him empty the lockers in the cockpit to see if it's there.

Follow the hot water hose from one of the sinks. Shouldn't be too hard to see where it's heading off to.

You seriously need to hire someone else if they can't find a potable water pump on a 30' boat.

The FW pump on the '83 Cat. 30 I had some years ago was accessible through the aft seat locker of the salon dinette IIRC.

Re: HELP! Where is the hot water heater!

There is always the possibility that there never was a hot water heater. Towards the end of his life my father who had no disease caused dementia or ever had a stroke would occasionally sit and talk in his living room having conversations with dead people. And when I would walk in he would tell me that I just missed Uncle Pinky or someone. He used to call me because his hot water heater quit sometimes, but he had just turned it down to 0 degrees or his HVAC would act up and it was turned to 0 or 90. I used to not want to get old but now that I am, it is not so bad. I get all sorts of discounts, and if there were no pandemic I could leave home and could use them. On the plus side, wearing a mask makes me far handsomer that I have become and if I did not social distance I think many American foxes would want to know me.

It's under the dinette seat on the Catalina 36, as is the pressure pump. Check there.

Re: HELP! Where is the hot water heater!

This guy is not that bad and I do believe he improves a tad day by day.
Thanks to everyone. He found it. I went on the boat and OMG. You couldn't find a place to sit. So...I cleaned his oven inside and out, made a space for coffee beans, grinder, filters, coffee pot. Got his propane going and made him clean out the berths and lo and behold at the end of the portside aft berth was the hot water heater! I'm going to label everything just to help him through this rough spot in his life. Thanks again, he's a happy camper.

I have a Catalina 309 and the hot water heater is under the the port side settee just in front of the sink. The fresh hot water hose connects to the the heater ( hence your friends associating it with the fresh water pump ) hope this is helpful

On a Catalina 30, the engine is located under the galley drawers and the inboard end of the L-shaped dinette seat. The pump placement varied over the years, but is most likely to the port side of the engine, under the dinette seat.

Thank you for helping him out, but there's something amiss here. Catalina 30's don't have a port side aft berth...
