A salute to a fantastic sailor

In a previous post in a different forum I recently referred to Susanne Huber-Curphey, a little known solo sailor. She has shunned publicity so I was a bit reticent about posting much about her, but now the cat is out of the bag, for the Ocean Cruising Club has honored her with another award and a long article about her voyages. Below find some photos and a link to the article.

Susanne is an extraordinary person and sailor, and I'm kinda proud to call her a friend. Read and be awed!

Jim

Yes, thanks for sharing Jim. It is good read about an accomplished sailor. Your pride is well deserved methinks!

Great story! I'd love to read the book when it comes out (hint, hint) of Crossing Moitessier's Wake....

Re: A salute to a fantastic sailor

Pure inspiration and admiration Jim. Thank you. I'm not sure what part of the story impressed me the most, but this surely got my attention:

"Besides the repair of the Jordan Series Drogue there was no work list as hardly anything had broken . . ."

What??!! Never heard such a statement with regard to a cruising boat! No doubt a testament to a strong, simple design, as well as superlative seamanship skills no doubt.

Re: A salute to a fantastic sailor

Jim, thanks for this. I have heard about Susanne and her incident with Nehaj . We feel very fortunate to also have an aluminum boat or two. They are much stronger than we are. Nevertheless is takes an extraordinary sailor to accomplish what she has. She is truly an inspiration for us older folks out there.

Awed indeed! Another thank you for sharing that. She seems a bit mad, in the best possible way.

Re: A salute to a fantastic sailor

WOW.

I think the yard should save some of the frames as an example of what stress their boats can handle. Koopman's should have a frame as well.

What an accomplishment.

I won't ask a lady her age, but roughly what decade of life is she?

Later,
Dan
