What happened in Lake Travis, with the "boat parade"

Without trying to stir up a political pissing match . . .

I've been on and around Lake Travis, I remember it as a pretty serene body of water (except for some speedboats). The recent swamping of several boats during and "event" is to me mysterious. I've never seen big swell on that lake. Was this a weather anomaly, or ?

Maybe the wakes of the multiple boats coincided and reinforced each other? Like soldiers walking across a bridge, all in step. Or ?

Absolutely. Didn't you ever do this with a few friends in a swimming pool until the parents came out yelling about sloshing all the water out?

Re: What happened in Lake Travis, with the "boat parade"

I just read an article citing the sheriff. It seems the boats were kicking up substantial wakes which swamped 5 boats. There were apparently several more distress calls. https://www.cnn.com/2020/09/07/us/tr...rnd/index.html Strangely Lake Travis was nearly dry a few years ago. https://www.marketplace.org/2016/05/...-long-drought/

You're dreaming mate, there is absolutely no hope that this thread won't turn into a "political pissing match" given the subject matter.

And Elon would in no way put a potential shareholder at risk. It has to be an extension of the riots from the urban to the marine environments.

Wow. It's hard to squeeze a grin or giggle out of that. It's hard to watch anyone grieving for their lost boat, regardless of their political views, or lack of safety awareness. I doubt there was a single word he said in that video that I agreed with, but my heart still goes out to him.

Re: What happened in Lake Travis, with the "boat parade"

Just plain foolish navigating.

The wake generated by other boats caused five boats to sink on a Texas lake during a parade in support of President Donald Trump, according to the Travis County Sheriff's Office.

The weather on Lake Travis, which is west of Austin, was calm Saturday, but the large number of boats moving together produced large waves, the sheriff's office said in a news release.

According to this article, participants were invited to "really make a statement."

https://www.npr.org/2020/09/06/91032...arade-in-texas

I think the statement was "We all flunked our basic boating safety course."

You can't make this stuff up: Combine powerboaters with Trump supporters and what do you get? Stupidity so supreme that they were sinking themselves!
