Opinion on just painting rough surfaces?

I’ve never dealt with a paint that adhered as well or was as tough as Kiwigrip. Not sure if that would be the silica or a quality feature of the paint?

One thing to remember when doing ceiling panels is sometimes you are dealing with compound curves, so not as easy as would first appear.

We used an elastomeric paint from Home Depot in the head of our old Searunner 38 catamaran. It left a decent texture which may mask some of the cloth print through, but as I recall was a pain to work...

Never been a problem for us, but I guess it depends on the amount of texture?

We used a “special” exterior water based house paint with a mildew inhibitor on the interior of our boat. We painted about a year ago and no signs of mildew yet.

My problem with liners is they can be heavy and if not well done, can look worse than a non faired painted interior. If well done they can look great but will be costly in both labor and material.

No to mention all the lbs of wasted high dollar fairing compound that you’ve sanded off!
I’m a big fan of using Kiwigrip on the decks, easy prep, easy clean up, sticks very well and able to adjust...

I think most people are looking for a perfect finish on the interior of their boats, but there are a few that would appreciate the ease of cleaning and weight savings of a non faired painted interior...

Our cat is all painted over unfaired glass on the inside.
Advantages are it’s easy to clean and all fittings are easy to reach if needed. Also liners and fairing ad quite a bit of weight, something...
