Re: Another look at Solar Powered refrigeration on sailboats

Hygroscopic rating is the attraction and holding of water molecules from the surrounding environment at normal standard day ambient temperature. Conditions surrounding a boat’s refrigerator are far...

Re: Another look at Solar Powered refrigeration on sailboats

This has been an informative review of solar powering pleasure boat refrigeration. This subject thread has covered both sides of the refrigeration hardware energy efficiencies so each forum viewer...

Re: Another look at Solar Powered refrigeration on sailboats

There are three reason batteries are more efficient in storing energy with solar powered small compressor refrigeration .
1 Even if there is excessive energy available from solar only an average of...

Re: Another look at Solar Powered refrigeration on sailboats

I am glad to see the real facts are coming out on solar power for refrigeration that relieves stress on a boat's DC power grid. Hopefully it is now understood that not one unit in these ice box...

Re: Another look at Solar Powered refrigeration on sailboats

Just to clear up another "feature!!! lol" comment the TE2 does not cause hunting on a BD35 compressor.

It is almost impossible to get TXV valve hunting with this small Danfoss compressor on a...

Re: Another look at Solar Powered refrigeration on sailboats

I totally disagree with the above. The TX valve quoted is most likely a Danfoss T2 or TE2 using a OX orifice as these are the smallest they have available. They are Danfoss rated with a nominal 1/3...

Re: Another look at Solar Powered refrigeration on sailboats

There are two differences in performance between a TXV and Cap tube refrigerant flow control. The TXV and its liquid storage tank has a wider Btu control range and refrigerant flow volume/pressure is...

Re: Another look at Solar Powered refrigeration on sailboats

Missourisailor, your reported Cool Blue refrigeration with eutectic plate evaporator performance is typical but what was missing were the ambient air and water temperatures.
Small 12/24 volt...

Re: Another look at Solar Powered refrigeration on sailboats

I was suggesting to nilesph’s post ways to maybe supplement energy storage as his Adler Barbour evaporator that would not store enough energy power only available by day time solar panels. Very few...

Re: Another look at Solar Powered refrigeration on sailboats

nilespf, Sometimes the solar controllers will trip off line from the compressor surge (if batteries are disconnected)
Has anyone out there measured their system duty cycle getting much higher...

Re: Another look at Solar Powered refrigeration on sailboats

a62Pilot, I did not qualify my statement about the Cool Blue machine correctly. The Cool Blue with a BD35 compressor running at fixed speed 2,000 Rpm installed in four or less cubic ft box, set a,...

Re: Another look at Solar Powered refrigeration on sailboats

RaymondR, I am not familiar with the companies manufacturing and selling eutectic plate systems in Australia for small twelve volt compressors. Here in the US most companies that did produce small...

Re: Another look at Solar Powered refrigeration on sailboats

I ask two direct questions about melting energy of ice stored in a metal tank. These questions have no bearing on how ice is made or the area around tank where ambient heat is drawn from or where...

Re: Another look at Solar Powered refrigeration on sailboats

Do you believe that 25 pounds of zero degree F eutectic solution ice stores more energy than 25 pounds of 32 degree F plain water ice?

Do you believe a frozen eutectic solution plate to be as...

Re: Another look at Solar Powered refrigeration on sailboats

Q Xopa, Has the correct understanding of storing ice whether from water or eutectic solution. During the temperature reduction of a substance before liquid is frozen is defined as Sensible heat...

Re: Another look at Solar Powered refrigeration on sailboats

Re: Another look at Solar Powered refrigeration on sailboats

Eutectic energy storing evaporator tanks offer one advantage and that is to store surplus energy if it is available. Unless a boat has a propane or diesel flame heat fired refrigeration the source of...

Re: Another look at Solar Powered refrigeration on sailboats

Re: Another look at Solar Powered refrigeration on sailboats

StuM, Sorry I got carried away with solar power without battery assist. You are correct a 600 watt-hr panel will handle my example 50 amp-hr a day system as long as surplus energy can be stored in...

Another look at Solar Powered refrigeration on sailboats

Direct solar powered refrigeration on a pleasure sailboat without battery assist is not practical when refrigerated box size is larger than 100 liters (3.5 cu ft), as I understand Danfoss BD35F solar...
