Re: Friendliest marinas in Florida?

I can't really blame you. The City Council has now decided to allow live-aboards in the municipal marina, and they're going to put in the needed facilities and upgrade others, but I fear there will...

Re: Friendliest marinas in Florida?

It's true. The little town of Gulfport, just south and west of some parts of St. Petersburg, is right on Boca Ciega Bay. The town's logo is a sailboat.

Nevertheless, a resident mounted a campaign...

Re: Friendliest marinas in Florida?

No, they are not owned by the same people! The management at Regatta Pointe is flakey. They just do odd things. Every time my club has sailed there for the weekend the management has done some kooky...

Re: Friendliest marinas in Florida?

Also, find Ricky's, the PHENOMENAL Cuban bakery a little north of Coconut Grove. I know good Cuban baking, and they have it hands down over any other place I've seen. They don't speak a lot of...

Re: Friendliest marinas in Florida?

I agree. Regatta Pointe is weird. It looks great on the surface, and they'll tell you a good tale should you go check it out, but Twin Dolphin is directly across the river from them but miles above...

Re: Friendliest marinas in Florida?

I meant to mention that Pasadena does include ice in their fee, and there's really no limit. There's also a good source for dry ice if you want to use that on a trip.

You have to pay for your ice...

Re: Friendliest marinas in Florida?

That's very low level pressure on the keel. It might affect the bottom paint, but so does grounding. I suspect I had ... er ... polished ... the tip of my keel in ... other ways than how I tied it up...

Re: Friendliest marinas in Florida?

Don't get me wrong. I liked Pasadena Marina and would not hesitate to return there .... but it's $9 a foot plus $170 a month here.

At Pasadena, your electric blll is extra. At Twin Dolphin, it's...

Re: Friendliest marinas in Florida?

I agree, and it's a problem with Pasadena Marina as well. Tonight a friend sailed in from Apollo Beach. Three people -- one of whom I didn't even know -- were at her dock to make sure she was able to...

Re: Friendliest marinas in Florida?

I'll second that one too. They have a complementary water taxi you can take in and out to your boat -- unless it's stormy. Then it's their choice whether they run or not. But nice, helpful people,...

Re: Friendliest marinas in Florida?

That's a really good point. It's somewhat sheltered from the rain, has saw horses and such, well away from the boats so no one comes home to sawdust all over their deck. Taking care of your garbage...

Re: Friendliest marinas in Florida?

This would have been sometime in the early sixties. I'm pretty sure I was still in high school (because in college I could have gone to stay at the dorm and probably have had heat), so the latest it...

Re: Friendliest marinas in Florida?

Once again I'm going to urge caution about Regatta Pointe. The OP can email me if she wants, because there are things I won't say in public.

Re: Friendliest marinas in Florida?

St. Augustine if a beautiful little city and I like it much better than Jacksonville, where I lived for 8 years. Only thing I would say about St. Augustine is that it's far enough north that you will...

Re: Friendliest marinas in Florida?

I know of a marina here (not live-aboard) where the shrimpers (fortunately not many of them) don't like any sailboats no matter whose they are, so I'm not really too surprised to hear this.

I'm...

Re: Friendliest marinas in Florida?

Regatta Pointe is not a marina I would recommend at this time. A fair number of people who were there have moved across the river to Twin Dolphins.

Re: Friendliest marinas in Florida?

I have lived at Pasadena Marina and Twin Dolphin in Bradenton. Of the two, both are very good and about the same price for what you get, but I prefer TD.

First of all -- no bridges to get where...
