Looks like they haven't left yet so this proves nothing.

Also, they didn't say whether or not they'd attempt to enter an inlet where local knowledge is required because they were tired or running...

They've learned the lesson of not entering a channel/pass/inlet that requires local knowledge since these channels are continually changing from what the charts, markers, or buoys say........ we have...

Actually no need to call him, there are two books about it and three National Geographic's with articles on his RTW voyage which took 5 years. Plus a movie.

I think this is another reason for those new to sailing/boating with a draft to go with an old full keel boat with it's encapsulated keel.

You can bounce off the bottom quite a bit usually...

That's a bit harsh I'm thinking, especially with all the threads (on CF), books, and positive advice saying such things as Go Small, Go Now!!

It's endless. Just look at various threads on CF...
