Gerhard,

would you mind to update your private OCPN page with respect to the comments regarding https etc. and the OpenCPN home page?
It does not reflect the actual stage correctly .

When you double click the downloaded package - the .dmg - there is a pop-up window (see below).
Drag the OpenCPN into your application folder.

(I see you got it, but just in case..)

In Finder|Applications right click OCPN and select "open"

You will need to confirm that you want to execute the program from an unknown developer.
