Bingo. It will perform like your existing jib boom, but provide more space (height) for stowing the dinghy on deck. JimCate (above) has a good point, though having the dinghy stowed on the foredeck...

If you have a track for the staysail boom already in place, why not try using the staysail without the boom and see what happens? For going upwind it should work fine. On reaches you might need...
