Re: Is the Market Really this Bad ?

There was no riding it...I had no intention of selling initially. When my house was amortizing 20% a month and GDP is 3% a year, something was wrong. It had to collapse. All I did was get out. I rode...

Re: Is the Market Really this Bad ?

I would disagree...Especially with a house. My house in Hawaii tripled in price from 2000 when I bought it to 2005 when I sold it. then waited until 2009 to buy back into the California market. I...

Re: Is the Market Really this Bad ?

People are interesting. Whether it's boats or houses, there seems to be a certain group that get stuck with a "look and see" attitude. I hear how the economy is bad or going to dip again, we're...

Re: Is the Market Really this Bad ?

...(good grief)...I was relating to the dooms day predictions of the China Elites buying all our plastic boats. Reading some of these posts help me to move up my departure date by at least a year.

Re: Is the Market Really this Bad ?

Also too...consider that no matter what you pay for a boat, many more thousands will go in over the years that you will never get back. So...not to buy a boat because you can't get it for 1/2 price...

Re: Is the Market Really this Bad ?

...uhmmm...not sure about that if you look at the gold chart the last 6 months and our dollar to the Euro. Not to mention other factors I'm hearing on the news wire.

Re: Is the Market Really this Bad ?

I have my own theory which I formulized while I dabbled in Real estate. I bought a home in Kona Hawaii. Everyone said I was silly for buying in a tourist market and that prices would never go up....

Re: Is the Market Really this Bad ?

Funny thing about oil analysis is that all the owner has to do is change the oil and the report comes back as clean.

Re: Is the Market Really this Bad ?

Maybe he uses Galvanized wire. Some of those older boats use that and they swear by it...or was that at it?

Re: Is the Market Really this Bad ?

I can...For exactly the reason you point out. Most people now a days can't do their own work. Our society has exported so much manufacturing off-shore, the younger end of the country has lost the...

Re: Is the Market Really this Bad ?

This post is spot on. A lot of boat buyers (myself included) have the "dream". They spend tons of money and then for some reason or another the dream is broken. Also what was said about old shoddy...

Re: Is the market really this bad?

...Yes...probably true but I owned a Tartan Blackwatch 37 with wood cabin sides. Talk about maintenance. If you let the finish lift, you're in for a long varnish job. My feeling is the maintenance...

Re: Is the market really this bad?

...I wondered why he would switch the newer HR for an older design. but maybe she was an influence. When I check out their blog, it's like "Vogue" goes sailing.

Re: Is the market really this bad?

I'd say we need a surveyor in on this conversation. Again, I would question how much experience you have with HR's, Oyster's Swan's ect., qualities.

Re: Is the market really this bad?

It's the same here...a buyers market. Having said that I noticed the "I can't afford a boat" people of 5 years ago are still saying the same thing with the exception that boats are now 2/3 the price!

Re: Is the market really this bad?

You're joking with these blatant generalizations right? You mean to tell me that a 1982 Yorktown 35 is the same as a 1982 HR 352? Dream on. There are a handful of boats out there that are to this day...

Re: Is the market really this bad?

Maybe you should check the going prices for these 352 before generalizing like that. They are known to be some of the strongest, safest and better sailing boats out there. My 35 is the predecessor...
