Re: GPS upended?

The other piece of the puzzle is that way offshore you have to be patient. Without the 'A' in AGPS it takes a while for the GPS to get started. It may take five minutes depending on how long and how...

Re: GPS upended?

Sure. Those choices have nothing to do with operational location. This is called assisted GPS (AGPS) in which other information is used as a 'seed' for initial solution. That greatly speeds up...

Re: GPS upended?

Agreed. I'm not aware of any application that uses cellular for corrective data. Asset tracking does sometimes use cellular for outbound data. The latter is how Amazon Prime can show your package...

Re: GPS upended?

Not necessarily. We built a non-real-time DGPS system in 1991 for subsea survey purposes. Civilian GPS under SA was fine for navigation. We used the master station data and the at-sea data with post...

Re: GPS upended?

That is the entire foundation for differential GPS (DGPS). That takes care of supporting moving platforms.

As far as I know they are on the same satellites. M-code is on GPS Block III birds.

Re: GPS upended?

Therein really is the key. GPS has become ubiquitous. Auto navigation. Marine. Land surveying. All kinds of deployed sensors. Aviation. Autonomous vehicles.

It will be interesting to read the...

Re: GPS upended?

You’re confusing two different things. All GPS receivers use both L1 and L2. Phase comparison between the frequencies is what allows the calculation of propagation delay. The code for selective...

Re: GPS upended?

What I think I remember is L1 and L2 as the two frequencies. C/A code is on L1 and P code is on both L1 and L2. The two frequencies allows determination of atmospheric delay (latency) by the client...

Re: GPS upended?

The Navy and other elements of DoD sometimes conduct GPS spoofing tests in the lower Chesapeake. The effects are usually pretty localized. Check the LNTM Tests are always published.

Re: GPS upended?

No. You're confusing selective availability (SA) with mainstream GPS. Same satellites, same frequencies, same power. SA has been turned off for a long time and just adds jitter to the timing that...

Re: GPS upended?

Issues include intermodulation (mixing of signals of different frequencies that generate sum and difference signals on frequencies of interest) and cheap radio receiver front ends that can be...
