Re: With lithium do we actually need a dedicated starter battery?

Sounds like you are on a different world. All the modern 50’+ boats are 24V or 48V.

Re: With lithium do we actually need a dedicated starter battery?

Indeed, it’s also a worldwide industry standard. As 12V house batteries are quickly becoming a thing of the past, we have switched to kWh because Ah doesn’t make sense until you add how many Volts...

Re: With lithium do we actually need a dedicated starter battery?

All this talk about Ah is so meaningless. Talk in kWh so that we don’t have to guess at which voltage etc.

Re: With lithium do we actually need a dedicated starter battery?

You can’t compare start batteries with house batteries because the requirements are totally different.

For start batteries you need very high power output but only limited energy capacity. This...

Re: With lithium do we actually need a dedicated starter battery?

You are Dutch, like me, right? You better switch to electric because soon there’s no more gas in Holland

I had a Wibo 930 for 17 years… yes, it was camping. But many homes use induction...

Re: With lithium do we actually need a dedicated starter battery?

See, here is where our different opinions pop up:

- an electric galley can’t work on 3.5kW. Even just two induction hobs can go up to 3.6kW. You want a minimum of three 1.8kW appliances, for...

Re: With lithium do we actually need a dedicated starter battery?

Keeping the house bank at 12V is okay as long as the galley keeps propane. As soon as we enter the 5kW+ power requirement, it is much better to switch to 24/48V. It isn’t a problem that this requires...

Re: With lithium do we actually need a dedicated starter battery?

I have been asked to voice my opinion here too so brace yourselves

First of all, even though not in the way one may think, I fully agree that the starter battery is history.

My...
