I agree you'd definitely want enough ballast. But there are plenty of much faster boats that have plenty of ballast down low. And on any boat, having it rigged to be able to reduce sail easily...

Remember, you can always have deeper reefs in a sail to reduce it more when you don't need as much. But it's harder to add sail on the fly.
