Re: Atomic 4 vs. diesel ?
Just about every express cruiser you see under 35 - 40 feet has 1 or 2 gas inboards. I've got 2 gas inboards in my own boat as well. Looking around my marina, there are maybe a half-dozen... |

Re: Atomic 4 vs. diesel ?
Condensation in fuel tanks can happen, but it's never going to put any significant amount of water into a tank. It doesn't happen every day, only when a large enough temperature swing happens. And... |

Re: Atomic 4 vs. diesel ?
Return fuel temperature varies a good bit depending on the engine, as does return flow. Some diesels warm the return fuel significantly, others only a little bit. And some engines only return a... |

Re: Atomic 4 vs. diesel ?
That kind of sudden failure underway is the one big thing that bothers me about fuel injected gas boats. Outside of a boat, I'll take EFI over a carb any day. But something about the much... |

Re: Atomic 4 vs. diesel ?
Mercruiser, Crusader, Indmar, Marine Power, and a few others still build gas inboards. A lot of them go into ski boats these days (as those are typically straight inboard, not stern drive). And... |

Re: Atomic 4 vs. diesel ?
For the fume concerns, in my mind, any gas powered boat needs a fume detector installed. Your nose will be more sensitive than the detector for a pre-start check, but your nose isn't down there all... |

Re: Atomic 4 vs. diesel ?
10 percent ethanol isn't the end of the world. Start with a clean fuel tank, modern-ish fuel lines (rubber lines made since the 90s are alcohol resistant) and possibly a carb rebuild depending on... |

Re: Atomic 4 vs. diesel ?
I wouldn't be too afraid of an A4 with a well cared for fuel system, closed cooling and an electronic ignition conversion. It's not exactly the best gas engine out there, but they're cheap and can... |
