Maybe not.

They ran it back and forth and banged on it. Did not tough the control system beyond the proximity sensor.

Sounds like a mechanical thing. Had some grime in it they kind of...

First question….
Does the power shut off or not?

IOW is it’s motion stopped because the power goes away or because something shuts...
