A caged prop is not uncommon with some commercial boats.

I would think a full keeled boat would be less likely. If that's yours and you sail the Gulf south, draft would be my concern more than warps. I like them with a keel hung rudder.

I've used blocking off air to stop a shot diesel running on sump oil. I'm wondering if using it to prohibit starting might not load the cylinders up with fuel? It might be a small aggravation if it...

I'm not sure where the proper marine diesel idea came from, that it has a decompression lever?

Why make it difficult. It might pay to try the line on a winch, while in neutral prior to trying bumping it in reverse with the starter. In all likelihood it's going to require getting wet.

Using the starter to turn the prop in reverse while maintaining tension on the line is worth a try. Next go overboard with a good knife. A serrated bread knife works well. It is more scallops than...
