Re: Repower costs... what am I missing?

There’s a blast from the past. I remember when you first posted those conversion photos. I was impressed then, still impressed now.

If I still had a land base I’d have been tempted to do the...

Repower costs... what am I missing?

Re: Repower costs... what am I missing?

Stop it... I’m drooling again and the boat is already leaking enough.

Re: Repower costs... what am I missing?

Probably. I got lost when it turned into a grocery store.

Nissan ED33 is the current monstrosity.

Re: Repower costs... what am I missing?

Got to be better than my 420 kg, 40 year old stinking monster of a Nissan.

Kudos to the Beta dealer, when I told him what I was removing he calmly asserted that that particular conversion from...

Re: Repower costs... what am I missing?

Whatever fruit you choose, my engine parts are long gone.

I’m getting a decent engine. Enjoy your dinosaur.

Re: Repower costs... what am I missing?

Sorry, but no. You cannot. And you’d have to have rocks in your head to be dependent on an engine while cruising that needed access to specialised machine shops, highly skilled engineers and a whole...

Re: Repower costs... what am I missing?

An of course, a rebuild is ok if you can get parts. The whole reason I am replacing my engine is parts are pretty well made of unobtainium.

Re: Repower costs... what am I missing?

Not entirely unlike an Italian tuneup.

Re: Repower costs... what am I missing?

That’s a good deal I reckon. And if you SAIL here it will save on the airfare. See you in about six months then?

Re: Repower costs... what am I missing?

Right.

I read your previous post as suggesting the transmission was part of the 5K.

Not questioning your economics, you’ll have a perfectly clear picture, just curious to see if any of the...

Re: Repower costs... what am I missing?

Ok... the transmission will surely have accounted for a lot of the “installation” price.

I would not call that an installation cost.

Re: Repower costs... what am I missing?

Yes! This.

I was competing with guys who had storefronts and new cars bought on tax geared leases.

All I had was a ten year old Range Rover and a laptop.

The laptop may have been older...

Re: Repower costs... what am I missing?

Yes, back when I was not a student I possibly could have made more by working and paying someone else to do the work, but now I’m a student again my time is very cheap.

But even when I could, I...

Re: Repower costs... what am I missing?

Seems a similar ratio to what others are relating.

What “additional” work would you say was done? New exhaust etc?

Repower costs... what am I missing?

Ok, so let me spell out how I dealt with the issue, since my old industry is dead and buried, I don’t mind giving away my secrets.

I was a systems installer, dealing with SMEs.

Nobody wants...

Re: Repower costs... what am I missing?

Or, perhaps the fact that I was able to run that business purely on word of mouth indicates that my pricing approach was a good alternative.

Repower costs... what am I missing?

That’s the SD33. Apparently a bit smoother than the ED33, but, to quote a rather good 4WD forum...

“Not enough torque to pull the skin off a rice pudding.”

Most of what I have read suggests the...

Re: Repower costs... what am I missing?

Actually, I’m keeping my whole dash. It is way nicer than the new one.

There’s a big labour saving move.
