Of course you need air vents when filling the tank and using the water from it, but not when the water is just sloshing around. Time to stop digging, I'd say.

If you're concerned about the lack of chlorine in RO water, you can add it yourself. Or add silver-ions based granules, which is what I do.
Then you can stop digging... my guess is you went a bit...
