High Hours and Service Life?

Jim,
Even 20 yrs ago when I was still playing with cars there was something called LS1 edit, it was software. You could plug into the OBD2 port and adjust rev limiter, Recurve spark advance,...

Re: High Hours and Service Life?

Your right, as I said I suck at math.
How about 800 HP Cadillacs? This is the Wife’s car, not this one, hers is in storage, but it’s tempting. It’s already a sleeper at over 400 HP, but 800 would be...

Re: High Hours and Service Life?

Jim I believe that equation is also used to determine the kinetic energy of a moving object.
But I suck at math so I’m not certain.
It is I believe simply Energy is equal to mass times velocity...

High Hours and Service Life?

I’d agree with most of that, except the major importance of higher RPM is piston speed, it’s entirely possible that a low turning, long stroke motor can have a higher piston speed than a high revving...

Re: High Hours and Service Life?

However it has been documented more than a few times I’m sure that wear does not increase linearly with RPM, but a great deal more, it seems to follow closely to how much energy is in the...

Re: High Hours and Service Life?

Back in the 70’s when high bypass filters and synthetic oil became the rage, many were also fitting pre-lubers. Either a pump, but usually a pressure accumulator and solenoid that would supply...

Re: High Hours and Service Life?

So, just out of curiosity, how do you explain what everyone here seems to take as Gospel, that is you have to run a Diesel hard, as in 80% or more of its available RPM for one to last?

Re: High Hours and Service Life?

Nothing to warp them, actually there seems to be quite some evidence that a block that has gone through thousands of temp cycles etc. is “seasoned” and stronger than a new one.

Re: High Hours and Service Life?

Why would anything happen to the block, unless it’s way overheated or something large and heavy dropped on it or something.
Even if something happened, replace it.

Re: High Hours and Service Life?

Big motors can last indefinitely as everything is replaceable.
I recently learned that my little 4JHE has wet liners, but they aren’t replaceable. I knew it had wet liners and assumed like all...
