Re: easiest way to change engine mounts

Having tracked and balanced a many a helicopter rotor system, I can tell you it's not pitch that you are trying to ensure is the same, but lift, or thrust in the case of a prop to reduce vibration....

Easiest way to change engine mounts

Vibe is still there, just not nearly as bad and occurs higher in the RPM band now, just didn't happen at the dock.
I believe mostly it was sagged out mounts allowing engine alignment to be out as...

Easiest way to change engine mounts

I noticed that when I changed them, cast aluminum oil pans tend to dampen noise to, whereas stamped steel ones can resonate, but stamped bends, and cast cracks so, but I do believe it will support...

easiest way to change engine mounts

OK they are done.
First a soccer ball will work just fine, if I had gotten a decent pump. Pump I got was a piece of crap and the hose on it busted. If I had gone to the hanger and gotten my bike...

Re: easiest way to change engine mounts

I'll of course change the mounts one at a time, I see no advantage of trying to do more than one at a time.
Mounts appear to be old, I wouldn't be surprised if they aren't original to the boat, so...

Re: easiest way to change engine mounts

Sandero thanks, but a reason for doing this is I have a driveline vibration. Last haul out I paid for the shaft to be removed and checked for pitting and straightness and new Cutlass bearing and of...

Re: easiest way to change engine mounts

Yes, I have 200's I believe for the starter side (left), Port. and 150's for the other side.
I don't know why they are different though, perhaps it's just the weight of the starter?

Thanks.

Re: easiest way to change engine mounts

I'm going to guess a 4-JHE ought to weigh 500 lbs, maybe a little more? Just a guess though.
Now I'm no good at math so check me, but if you assume a flattened Soccer ball will cover a half a...

Re: easiest way to change engine mounts

My only concern is for the thickness and of course the strength of the pan under the engine, this pan of course exists only to catch spills, and there is no reason for it to very robust, so I'll try...

easiest way to change engine mounts

Nothing is rotted. Mounts look like they are original and that makes them 29 yrs old, they deserve retirement is all.
My lag bolts, have machine threads, 3/8 I believe. I'm sure there is a threaded...

Re: easiest way to change engine mounts

OK got it, I didn't look to see if the arm the mount was attached to, was in itself bolted to the engine, seems logical that it would be, more logical than it being a solid bar running under the...

Re: easiest way to change engine mounts

Frankly, I don't understand, are you manhandling the engine up and supporting on 2x4's?
What gets it up high enough to get it over the mount studs?

Re: easiest way to change engine mounts

I hadn't thought of a basketball, I see no reason why that wouldn't work, assuming you can get enough pressure in it, and the pan is strong enough, I think yes on both accounts.
There is an engine...

Easiest way to change engine mounts

I assume pry the engine up one side at a time with a 2x4?
Lifting would be difficult without removing the top portion of the enclosure.
Jacking, well maybe with a porta power, which I don't have....
