Re: Sudden Attraction to Hunters

Interesting Ken how you once personally told me the story of how your Hunter regularly sat on its' keel at the dock. Guess that wouldn't have anything to do with a keel problem. :whistling:

Re: Sudden Attraction to Hunters

But the fact is that my 14 year old Hunter has had NO problems with any construction/assembly item. So just because some people may have had a problem doesn't mean anything either.

In fact on my...

Re: Sudden Attraction to Hunters

I wonder what cheap means to some people. To me $115,000 for a 11 year old boat wasn't a cheap purchase. And since I got my boat the asking and sold prices have increased for the same year/model even...

Re: Sudden Attraction to Hunters

Just so many experts on all the different models Hunter has made. They must be experts or how else could they know so much about the boats beyond the owners/designers etc. :trash:

Re: Sudden Attraction to Hunters

Come on now you don't think that everyone checks their keels on haul out? This isn't a Hunter issue, it is something everyone with a bolt on keel should be doing.

Of course it doesn't matter to...

Re: Sudden Attraction to Hunters

Is there any point to this beyond that a boat owner should make sure HIS keel bolts are tight and the it isn't leaking?

And Nick, Hunter keels aren't "just falling off"! But if it makes you happy...

Re: Sudden Attraction to Hunters

Well I didn't get it

My Cal-39 was Cal's top of the line when it was built in 1988. Even if my Hunter was their bottom of the line when it was built in 2001 it is better built. So even...

Re: Sudden Attraction to Hunters

My Hunter 410 is worlds better than our Cal-39 was. I can honestly say that nothing about the Cal was better than our Hunter 410! I never would have taken my wife to see the Hunter if I hadn't have...

Re: Sudden Attraction to Hunters

Of course if they had they would note that the thread "owner" wasn't a Hunter person when the thread started and that it was research. If they searched further back they would find the person was...

Re: Sudden Attraction to Hunters

Far as I know the current practice is that they install the keel at the factory and then put it in a little lake they have on site to leak test it.

I don't know if some new boat got delivered and...

I wonder how many of people who have posted in the last 2 pages of this thread have actually read the whole thread.

I have, more than once plus a lot more research and then went out an got a...

Re: Sudden Attraction to Hunters

The structural integrity has nothing to do the liner. The liner is just to hold the interior assembly together till it is installed into the hull. If you take the time to watch a construction video...

Re: Sudden Attraction to Hunters

I'm not trying to say none of your comments were true. I think you just plain got a lemon.

All I'm saying it that it doesn't make all the Hunters trash as mine hasn't had any of the issue you had...

Re: Sudden Attraction to Hunters

Well I spend 2 days last year "trapped" on my Hunter 410 out on my mooring during a gail while the boat bounced all over the place. I didn't have any bangs or flexing etc and all the doors worked...

Re: Sudden Attraction to Hunters

From 2 years of operation it appears that if I motor at about 5-6 knots that I use around 0.6 gph. I do have a 3 blade Flexofold prop.

Re: Sudden Attraction to Hunters

Good Hunter model choice :thumb:

Could have done a little better if you had gotten the real keel and a little newer with the SS arch and real refrigation ;). But hey all boats have their...

Re: Sudden Attraction to Hunters

So after a few months now of sailing on my 2001 Hunter 410 I can say this:

I got this boat to be comfortable when in port, there's no agruing that it completely meets this!

- The boat sails...

I wouldn't say this. If I did research and got "tricked" etc into buying something that wasn't what is was suppose to be I would be letting everyne know so they didn't get taken in. I would not...

Re: Sudden Attraction to Hunters

That's it!!! Come on I could say this about 95+% of boats on the water!
1 - floorboards, secure them (ever heard of tape!)
2 - berths are just like any boat, install some lee clothes in saloon
3 -...

Re: Sudden Attraction to Hunters

You can have your opinion, it's OK with me. And I didn't really say I sail my boat DDW. I said I can if I really want too (but I don't ever do as a plan even before I got a Hunter). I chose to sail...

Re: Sudden Attraction to Hunters

So you tack down wind, put up the spinnaker, etc. The only time I'm going that dead down wind is in a seaway because there isn't any room to sail to a faster point. Put the main to center, or just...

Re: Sudden Attraction to Hunters

Because you get to have a larger main and smaller head sail, which together is easier to handle. The boat you saw isn't a Hunter design problem, it's a problem with the people sailing and maintaining...
