C'mon, if you really want a proper keel (and you probably should if you sail a mono), at least have one that is an integral part of the hull, not some silly bolted-on appendage. That means you will knock back most FG boats. So be it. Get real!

If you just muck around within 100 miles of the coast and your favorite marina with an EPIRB and mobile phone at hand, ignore the above comment!

The vast majority of Hunters fulfill their owners desires and the integrity of the keel within the normal boundaries of any bolted-on keel should be absolutely fine.

Of course if they had they would note that the thread "owner" wasn't a Hunter person when the thread started and that it was research. If they searched further back they would find the person was also part of the Hunter bashers. It may mean that the person put a lot more time into learning about them than reading internet stories. Or it could be that he is just an idiot.

I think "idiot" is too strong. How about a self-described mildly confused and ain't no expert kinda guy? I've always wondered why someone would off a Cal 39 to buy a Hunter 41, but as Don said earlier it had mostly to do with sleeping arrangements and keeping the wife happy.

My Hunter 410 is worlds better than our Cal-39 was. I can honestly say that nothing about the Cal was better than our Hunter 410! I never would have taken my wife to see the Hunter if I hadn't have liked it.

Well I didn't get it

My Cal-39 was Cal's top of the line when it was built in 1988. Even if my Hunter was their bottom of the line when it was built in 2001 it is better built. So even if it is crap, it is pretty good crap and better than the "better" stuff from before.

As I said earlier pretty much all of the high production boats are built with liners and they are structural liners. You pull that liner out and your hull integrity is gone. Its used to support everything from keel loads to rigging loads.
The other way to build boats was the way they built the early First series by Bene. The hull was laid up and they glassed in a grid to take all the loads. Then they glassed all the bulkheads in as well as tabbed in liners that were used for galley's, heads that sort of stuff. Thats a much superior method to build a boat but Bene quite doing that because it cost more. Now they are using structural liners like all the rest. The liners work fine and its much cheaper but they are glued in place and if that bond fails then you have a major problem. All of the builders have had this happen but I don't know how serious it is as far as numbers.

Seems to me Hunter glue the liner with Plexus as many builders do, later the whole interior is made in one single module, the module is later droped inside of the hull , bulkheads bottom rest in the liner but the sides are glased to the hull , anyone notice the masive backing plate glased in the deck?

Its almost impossible to glass liners to the hull which is why they are glued
