Here in Canada, Navionics often takes months to years to add CHS updates (rocks, shallows, new charts). Even when you "update" your Navionics, you cannot be sure your Navionics charts are actually...

We use satellite images VERY often here in British Columbia... very helpful up North.

This is not really true, especially if you do chart installation on Android without a PC.



HOWEVER, the "chart migration" function has definitely made the procedure easier for those without PC...

Completely agree. Trouble is, most commercial options limit your choice.



As for Canada West chart "sources", I am well-informed as to what's up-to-date vs not, etc.

Being "free" (or almost free on Android) wasn't why I like OpenCPN. However, it did make it easy/cost-free to assess.

OpenCPN "wins" for me because
- works with a wide range of chart formats and...
