In fact it's the opposite. OCPN is receiving serial string messages coded in NMEA 0183 format from any gadget. Your gadget has to send the heading in a appropriate NMEA 0183 format to OCPN....

Solosail...
First of all make sure to enable the WMM plugin. That will give you true heading and the vessel angle will be correct.
In Tools-options-ship set the prediction line,...
