LOR57 For sure...I remember a Maple Leaf 42 that was abandoned off the Wash/Oregon coast (that place has a well deserved rep) that showed up in Hawaii many months later with the bikes still...

I had a real hard look at a mid 80's Beneteau First 42 and it was very well built but I don't think that type of construction these days lends itself to mass production. I'd take one of those...

I agree that for the most part the boats are tougher than the skipper, well you and I anyways, LOL. That said if I were sailing the Southern ocean I would much prefer to be in an early 80's Beneteau...

I am aware that Jeaneau used some Kevlar in their bows but wouldn't you agree that for the most part the materials are same old same old!

Dave just what exotic materials are the production guys using in yachts today?? As far as I can see its still the same products ie; one coat of vinylester and the rest is polyester vacuum bagged.
