The purpose of DR is either to give you some idea where you are until you can get a fix or get you close enough to the coast to be able to recognize landmarks and/or nav markers |

I am a poor sailor and can't afford more than Nobeltec 6.5 on an laptop. This also works for developing your celestial navigation skills or for that matter any form of "analog"... |

Most chart plotters take it for granted the source of the digital input is as accurate as digital sources are capable of and do not allow for variations.....ie they consider the input to be 100%... |

One nice thing about not having an "all in one system" each of my GPSs (one handheld, one fixed w/ antenna mounted to boom gallows) and the laptop (which will eventually have it's own GPS) all... |
