Re: Solar, off grid and heat problem

I'll take a look. Shipping can't be that expensive but the border is always a PIA. Free is always better than cheap! Thanks man!

Re: Solar, off grid and heat problem

Newhaul / What is the model/spec of the one you'd give me for free if I pay the shipping? Where are you located?

I have asked them for the full PDF owners manual so I can get better specs. Still...

Re: Solar, off grid and heat problem

Wow. You know your electrical man!

Yes as another poster posted, the truly cold days in the PNW it's clear skies. Cloud cover tends to warm it up due to the greenhouse effect. When it's cold...

Re: Solar, off grid and heat problem

Hahaha. I have had to shovel the decks clear of snow before. Not that fun sleeping in there.

Re: Solar, off grid and heat problem

Wow, that's quite the well thought out system and very passive. Might be a bit extreme for my needs as here we deal with on average no more than a week at a time of below zero weather. Ontario gets...

Re: Solar, off grid and heat problem

Mmmm..

The tank itself I'm not worried about, it's aluminum. If the water in it froze it would not turn into a brick and the tank could probably take the strain as it isn't full. I could drain...

Re: Solar, off grid and heat problem

Can of potable antifreeze is $15CAD. Engine is a 2-stroke outboard, dont need to really winterize that, maybe pop some stabilizer in the fuel and pull the fuel line and let the float bowl run dry,...

Re: Solar, off grid and heat problem

Interesting. I'm not far from Puget - I'm slightly NE of Vancouver in Howe Sound. What about last winter when it was cold as Fk (2016/17)? Nobody had any problems in your area?

Re: Solar, off grid and heat problem

My only winterizing I need to do is ensure any freshwater systems are not going to burst in freezing weather (head, faucet) and to find a way to deal with moisture issues in the swing season.

Re: Solar, off grid and heat problem

not looking good for this solution.

I am definitely going for the solar, as the vast majority of the year i'm a weekender on the boat and during heavy summer use the sunshine is great and...

Re: Solar, off grid and heat problem

I've never heard of a thermal blanket- would this be like an electric blanket, only running on 12V?

An oil lamp or candles won't work at all, seeing as I will be leaving the boat tied up to the...

Re: Solar, off grid and heat problem

Yeah I'm mostly just trying to keep from freezing conditions; rather than actually heat the boat to a comfortable temperature for dwelling. I'm not sure if anyone has any experience in what wattage...

Hi there electrical junkies.

I am planning on buying a 150W 8A solar panel and a controller (good for up to 30A) for the boat as I am waiting on a waitlist for a marina and so I am moored off...
