Simple pumpless holding tank discharge with gravity and syphon

Has anyone seen a simple marine holding tank with a gravity discharge into a seacock that draws from the top of the tank?

I'm hoping to eliminate a pump, and only use the syphon affect of a...

Re: 3M Marine high strength Repair Filler & hardware thru deck

We have the prior step of pouring plain resin in the holes with tape on the bottom, waiting a couple minutes, then draining. Thicker strengthened resin is afterwards, will try to stuff more and more...

Re: 3M Marine high strength Repair Filler & hardware thru deck

8,000 lb safe working load and they'll have soft shackles to blocks that will do practically a 180 for spinnaker sheets. Don't expect to ever see anywhere near that much force on them, but too...

Re: 3M Marine high strength Repair Filler & hardware thru deck

Didn't know that about G10, just heard it was very strong and stiff. There is so much more to "fiberglass" than we realized.

Our understanding for this application is as follows:

The...

Re: 3M Marine high strength Repair Filler & hardware thru deck

Correction noted, and proving our need for help. LOL

Have you used it?
Do you have an opinion on its strength or appropriateness to these tasks?

Re: 3M Marine high strength Repair Filler & hardware thru deck

We havn't proven it LOL
That is to say, we have no experience with epoxy.

It's not just convenience, it's also eliminating a steps in assembling materials & mixing and possible errors. Also,...

How to clean colored spinnaker stains on a sock?

Some colored stains from a spinnaker that was left wet in the sock for too long
have made it to the top of ny todo list.

What's the best way to get these stains out of the sock?

Re: What's your AWG from Alt to Battery & Engine to Ground?

Oh, and there is this chart, which the boat builders seem to ignore when it suits them.

It's odd how the AWG size jumps from 4 to single 0

What's your AWG from Alt to Battery & Engine to Ground?

Wondering what size cables are used when replacing, and possibly upgrading the Alternator to Battery wire, and the Negative Battery to Engine Ground wire.

Planning to use Anchor pre-tinned...

Re: New cruising restrictions in Georgia (USA)

Not sure about whether States own anything anymore.

The Federal government passed a low taking "ownership" / control of all waterways from the Ocean and going up to the smallest little creek....

Re: What connector to crimp on wire for Simrad AC42 Autopilot wires?

That was the trick. Typing "5.08mm block" into eBay gave me a ton of quick delivery options.

Thanks

Re: What connector to crimp on wire for Simrad AC42 Autopilot wires?

Found that manual and there was no mention of it. It seems these connectors are two parts, so that the wires can be attached to a block, then the block inserted into the matching piece on the circuit...

What connector to crimp on wire for Simrad AC42 Autopilot wires?

Pictured is a portion of the wire terminal section of a Simrad AC42 autopilot (discontinued)

The power, motor & remote terminals are normal screw terminals for wires. But the alarm, rudder input &...

Re: Lost crew captain charged

LOL

Prosecutions motivated mostly by simple ambition, not necessarily a bad thing. A prosecutor first decides "What is easy, what makes me look good". It's beyond naive for anyone to...

If the Captain had turned around, and somehow (for the benefit of this discussion) managed to retrieve the sick individual on board, the Captain would clearly be liable for "dereliction of duty" as...

Re: Ideas on bridle for asymmetric between hulls

Great close up picture on those obviously purpose built bridle blocks.

Re: Ideas on bridle for asymmetric between hulls

Great post. Two follow up questions:

1. For what size vessel is your recommendation of purchase and block size?

2. I'm trying to envision the bitter ends of the bridle sides when the cam cleat...

Re: Ideas on bridle for asymmetric between hulls

Those U-bolts on the bows look to be specifically mounted for the purpose of this bridle. My cat happens to have u-bolts in about the same location, but my guess is that they were intended for jack...

Re: Ideas on bridle for asymmetric between hulls

That wouldn't work so well for me. My cat doesn't have a bowsprit, and there is no room in front of of the jib for another furler.

I'm not 100% on the differences between a gennaker and an asym...
