Re: Problems maintaining Lofrans Tigres windlass

I think that it's certainly easier in my case to take the Lofrans Tigres windlass off and turn upside down to drain it of oil.
It's important in my opinion to put in the recommended quantity of oil....

Re: Rutland 1200 wind gen

It's horses for courses. What suits one is not necessarily right for another. On my boat I have solar and a Rutland 1200. However I also have all led and a super efficient fridge plus modern radar...

Re: Filling USA propane cylinders in europe

Just out of interest. I was told by Calor gas that their propane and butane bottles are both built to the same higher specification. So it is possible in some places, mostly in Africa, to get which...

Re: Rutland 1200 wind gen

I hope that you sorted the knocking noise. The hum is a different kettle of fish. I have quietened mine down to an acceptable level, but I don't think it will ever be totally silent. I think that...

Re: Sailing and Aging

Ha! I like the sailboat to funeral home bit at the end of marineruscg's post. He's quite right. Also living on a boat for a long time makes it easier. I've lived on mine since 1976 so I'm probably...

Re: Sailing and Aging

I'm 72. I think it's important to keep fit. Currently sailed my 41 ft. boat from the east coast of England to the South Coast of Ireland single-handed. Next month down to the Portuguese Algarve. I...

Re: A sincere request

What a sad topic. Tolerance has gone out of the window. Ah well, welcome to the (current) real world. Sigh!

Re: How important are opening portholes?

I've lived on a boat for 42 years. In Northern Europe and the tropics. I wouldn't be without my opening portholes. In the winter it keeps the boat aired and in summer it keeps it cool. The after...

What was the problem with the controller? How did it manifest itself?

Re: Rutland 1200 wind gen

My system, which works for me, entails the use of solar power through a Victron mppt regulator. In southern climes and a British summer that supplies the bulk of my power. The wind generator...

Re: Rutland 1200 wind gen

An interesting artical, but lacking in detail about the conditions under which the test was conducted. The Marlec test, at least what they told me, was conducted on the roof of their building in...

Re: Rutland 1200 wind gen

Looking forward to it. Let me know about the vibration issue. I am having a friend who installs aircon settling me up with anti vibration blocks. Also l am coating the inside of the pole as suggested...

Re: Rutland 1200 wind gen

I have only owned it for a short while, but so far I would say yes. It has a better performance than my Aerogen 6 and the regulator is 21st century recent as opposed to the Aerogen's ancient system....

Re: Rutland 1200 wind gen

I have one (read earlier post) but I don't think they've been out long enough to observe the test of time. Mine is surviving the English winter ok.

Re: Rutland 1200 wind gen

What a good idea. I can visualise that working. I'll await the weather getting a bit warmer first. In a house a garage would be a good place to do it. The only garage I have is the one my hatch...

Re: Rutland 1200 wind gen

An update... Now that I have had the turbine for a little while I feel that I can make a more honest appraisal.
Firstly, I am glad that I purchased it. It puts out far more power than any other I...

Re: Rutland 1200 wind gen

I carry solar panels as well. However when I am sailing and all the electrics are up and running, I'm appreciative of my wind generator.
I live on board and extensively travel on the boat and have...

Re: Rutland 1200 wind gen

Update. The Generator is up and running. Fitting was easy and I didn't need to shorten the pole. Be careful when tightening the bolts that go through the pole to attach the stays. The pole is thin...

Re: iCOM IC-M700 any good

I use my mizzen backstay with isolators up to a triatic stay on my main masthead. Prior to all that it runs through the matching Icom antenna tuner.

Re: Rutland 1200 wind gen

You're right of course and I will do. However I found my last wind turbine very useful at sea, especially when the wind was forward of the beam when the apparent wind speed increases. When the wind...

Re: Rutland 1200 wind gen

After well over 20 years of use my Aerogen 6 has gone to the recycling bin. Yesterday I took delivery of a Rutland 1200 complete with pole kit and fixing kit. I will give a review when it's up and...
