Wondering if that gap could cause the tempered glass to shatter if it is dislodged, as mine were, from the aluminum frame

I suspect you are right. There was nothing on the hatches that failed identifying them, nor on the replacement hatches that came directly from Lagoon. ( replacements looked identical). I asked...

Thanks for the responses. I too had the fun experience of removing the whole unit to get at both pulleys. I swapped over the AC pulley to the
DC side (allowing for the correct rotation) but no joy....
