Re: LiFePO4 Batteries: Discussion Thread for Those Using Them as House Banks

Off grid. I'm using "House BMS" and that has worked well. I have 5 solar pannels, two small on the rail, two med on the bimi, and one larger on the dodger - I'm guessing 820watts and a D400 wind...

Re: LiFePO4 Batteries: Discussion Thread for Those Using Them as House Banks

After almost 9 years with my LiFePO4 bank and over 3000 cycles it is beginning to lose power. I can still run my boat on solar and wind for up to a week without a generator or alternator. I used...

Re: SPECTRA Catalina feed pump

Head unit is not pumping to the mag coupling. Just send SPECTRA a message to see if they have replacement head units or replacement pumps. I'll post and update once I hear from them.
THANKS!

SPECTRA Catalina feed pump

It appears that my feed pump has stopped pumping water. Does anyone know who manufactures that pump? I have yet to take the system apart. The pump has SPECTRA on the case, but I doubt they...

I have the old Hella SS running lights on the bow of my boat, but my boat has a very wet nose at sea and the Hella SS lights are "not" the most water tight made.
I'm tired for repairing the...

Re: Geico vs Boat US Insurance

Boat US was great in the US, they processed claims quickly and fully (I never had a claim but many friends did after lighting strikes and severe thunderstorms). If you go overseas, then you will...

Re: Retirement and boat purchase dilemma

Don't plan on visitors. Plan for the two of you and who cares about the rest. Make them sleep in the cockpit. As for cash flow and funds, get a financial advisor. 300K is very little money and...

Re: Month 10 Expenses of Cruising and Living on the Boat

Thanks for the data. I'm running about 2K per month and that includes a new outboard for the dink and a few expensive repairs in foreign countries. Last month was the cheap one at only 1100.00...

Re: New boat vs Used boat

Used!!! New boats are not rigged for offshore (in general) and the depreciation over the first year is best for someone else to bite. You can get older used boats for cheap and then spend $$ to...

Re: Grease blockage in the Galley Sink (how to prevent)

I'll try the TSP in a couple months it may be safer than Lye.
No I don't pour grease down the drain, but when...

Re: Grease blockage in the Galley Sink (how to prevent)

Never thought of using TSP or Lime to turn it into soap.

Grease blockage in the Galley Sink (how to prevent)

Yes we all have this problem, over time grease build up in the drain pipe and since it floats on water some of it always stays in the plumbing (as most of us have thru-hull drains below the water...

Re: Following Seas Dangers?

I hate the phrase "fair winds and following seas!" People who say that have never been in following seas! Fine at 6 to 10 ft, not fun above 16 ft. And I've never had fair winds with a 16+ft...

Re: Liveaboard Marinas around Chesapeake Bay (Baltimore or Annapolis Area)

I was at Eastport Yacht Center. Nice location and the price is not that bad. Floating dock is usually booked up for a year or more. It is also a working marina with a really nice bathhouse.

Re: Run Over by a Fishing Boat!

I carry a whistle on the dink at all times. I don't think my whistle would have done anything. An air horn may have helped.
