Re: Setting realist expectations for cruise planning

We're on Pend Oreille indeed! There are definitely days we've found challenging, those mountains will let you see wind from every point on the compass in as little as a quarter of nautical mile.

Re: Setting realist expectations for cruise planning

We'll make a best attempt for sure. We have to travel for lessons, which would include over night stays, and she owns her own business. In many ways, I'm more of a single handed sailor with a...

Re: Setting realist expectations for cruise planning

We usually end up in San Diego once a year, this could be a good option for us. I'll look into it, thanks!

I do like the idea of just committing to doing our sailing in the sound for one...

Re: Reefing? Just for Safety?

My boat is very tender, but if my point of sail has me consistentaly over 15 degrees of heel then I put a reef in. Not because I'm uncomfortable, but because we're actually faster at 10-15 degrees.

Howdy folks. I'm a novice sailor and I don't know what I don't know. We're two seasons in now and really having an amazing time taking our young family on short two or three day trips in our trailer...

Regarding the Gerr downhaul

Hello all. My local sailmaker mentioned the Gerr downhaul system, and it has me interested. I single hand a lot, and fairly new at this, and I'd like the option to douse the jib on my very tender...

Re: What's a traveler actually doing?

Thank you all, this is much more clear to me now. For my boat and use, I'll pass on the traveler. It's not a convenient install and I don't need one more thing to trip over on my way into the...

What's a traveler actually doing?

Help me I'm inexperienced and dumb. If I have a vang, what is the traveller doing and how much is my sailing experience going to change if I install one? My Macgregor 26D doesn't have one, and I'm...

Sealing before Kiwi Grip

Hello all. My non skid is pretty well shot, I plan on putting down Kiwi Grip over the old diamond patterned non-skid. I understand that Kiwi Grip isn't useful as a barrier, and I have some hairline...

Re: Which digital caliper to buy?

I'd encourage you to look at a dial caliper. I have digital and dials and end up using the dial the most because invariably I end up with a dead battery. The Starrett 3206-6 is amazing, it's one of...

Re: Drinking water filter for short lake cruise

Yes, filtering lake water. Sorry, I thought that was clear from the context.

So far I’m leaning towards just using the Katydyn. It’ll make a good chore for the kids.

Thanks!

I've replaced ALL the blocks on the boat, and nearly all the running rigging, and ran all the halyards aft along with downhauls. I'd like to get the sails up and...

Re: Novice questions about dyneema

Good point, I definitely am not replacing all my running rigging. I'm mostly looking at my light wind sail and jib downhaul. I also like the idea of having a spool stored away for insurance!
